Forest policy and governance

Balancing the economic, social and environmental values in the forest sector and creating an enabling environment for private investments, requires sound policies and good governance developed through open and participatory processes. Forest sector policies and strategies need to be embedded in broader macroeconomic and rural development efforts to ensure their contribution to sustainable development.

In addition to being an important resource for local and national development, forests also provide important global services, such as carbon storage and biodiversity conservation. These global forest agendas need also to be taken into consideration in policy and strategy formulation.

Indufor’s capabilities are based on extensive work on forest policy and governance issues at the international, national and local levels, and its broad understanding of the international and national policy context for forest sector development. Indufor provides independent advice that help governments and other actors in several critical areas.
