Indufor Participates in a New Pan-European Research Project EFORWOOD – Sustainability in the European Forest-Based Sector
27/01/2006
EFORWOOD, a new Integrated Project under the EU 6th Framework Programme, was launched in Uppsala, Sweden in November 2005. It is a four-year integrated project involving 38 organisations in 18 countries, with an estimated total budget of EUR 20 million – of which the European Commission contribution is approximately EUR 13 million. The project is funded under the EU “Global Change and Ecosystems” research activities in the Sixth Framework Programme.
The aim of the EFORWOOD project is to produce a decision-support tool that can be used to evaluate the contribution made to sustainable economic, environmental and social development by the European forestry and forest products sector.
Indufor participates in the development of a draft set of policy-relevant, coherent and internationally compatible sustainability indicators, elaboration of data collection protocols, and the establishment of a database of current EU and international policies that are deemed to have an effect on sustainability indicators in the forestry-wood chain. The project duration is 18 months.
